Kieron Pollard’s decision to play for the county side Somerset in their domestic T20 competition instead of going on tour with the West Indies A side has angered the West Indies Cricket Board. >
The West Indies Cricket Board has said that they were not impressed with this attitude of the player. However, the thing to be noted is that Pollard is not on the West Indies retainer contract and hence, is under no obligation to play in these tour games.
WICB said that they tried talking him out of playing county cricket and instead wanted to help him feature in the WI-A tours to help him build his career, but he did not look interested.
On the other hand, the West Indies Players Association has said that Pollard’s move was not wrong given that the board hadn’t signed any contract with him to that regard.
Even earlier, there had been issues when the West Indies Cricket Board had asked Pollard to represent the West Indies in an ODI series against Zimbabwe, which meant that he had to miss out on his IPL side, Mumbai Indians’ first game.
Rather surprisingly, Pollard is said to have had contemplated suing the board for his loss of earnings!
