India take on Sri Lanka in the fifth game of the Micromax Cup at Zimbabwe and the side will look to win it or get knocked out early of the tournament. such has been India’s predicament that not even a win here will ensure a berth in the final, given their twin-defeats to Zimbabwe, one of which had seen them concede a bonus point as well. >
As compared to that, Sri Lanka have won one and lost one, and will know that they are in a great position to knock the Indians out. >
The way this tournament has gone so far, it is only evident that the toss will play a huge role in deciding the winner. The teams batting second have all won the games, and if India has to win with a bonus point, they will have to win the toss and field. The advantage batting second is that the pitch eases out just that little bit which allows the ball to come on to the bat, as compared to the first half of the first innings, where batting is a definite issue.
However, India will need to make some changes to their batting order as well, given that they have not batted too well at the top of the innings. Murali Vijay continues to disappoint, which could pave way for a debutant, Naman Ojha, whereas Yusuf Pathan could be sent up the order.
Sri Lanka, on the other hand, too have some batting woes, but Upul Tharanga’s strong start against Zimbabwe will help, as will T Dilshan’s form. What will definitely be a huge positive is if the middle order of the likes of Angelo Mathews, Chamara Silva and Kapugedera also chip in with their knocks of 20s and 30s.
One gets the sense that Thilan Samaraweera may be picked for this game, given his record against India.
Sri Lanka and India have both been given 10/11 (Boylesports), such is the confusion of the bookies. But the fact of the matter is simple, you win the toss, you win the game!
