Collingwood slams Duckworth-Lewis system

Paul Collingwood blasted the Duckworth-Lewis system after losing to West Indies in a rain reduced game at Guyana on Monday.

Paul Collingwood blasted the Duckworth-Lewis system after losing to West Indies in a rain reduced game at Guyana on Monday.

Collingwood said that while he had no problem with the system in the ODI format, he definitely had an issue with its use in the T20Is in its current format. Collingwood added that it was the second time that they had had to bear the brunt of batting first in a rain-affected game, and it was the second time they had lost a game because of the system. England had scored 191 in the 20 overs whilst batting first, and the rains came down, which meant that the West Indian side were left to score only 60 runs in six overs. Earlier, in the previous edition of the ICC World T20 in England, the hosts were left defending 81 against the same opposition, West Indies, in the nine overs that were possible.

Collingwood slammed the system saying that it was impossible to defend a total of 60 in six overs with their ten wickets intact, as compared to defending 191 for a win. He also said that 95% of the time, a team defending 191 in a 20 overs game will be able to defend the target.
