In today’s 51st game of the third edition of the IPL, the Kings XI Punjab will take on the Deccan Chargers. Punjab has won three out of their last four matches and still are out of the tournament, whereas Deccan Chargers need to win both their games; today’s and the last one against Delhi to remain alive.
The game will be played at Dharamshala Cricket Ground, which is said to be one of the most beautiful cricket grounds in the world; surrounded by snow-capped mountains. However, that is not something that will worry or enthral Adam Gilchrist too much when he goes out to bat. It will be his own batting form that will be the source of worry for the Chargers’ captain. >
So far, it has been the lower order and the Chargers’ bowlers who have been getting the side home, but with the pitch expected to play, one can easily expect the top-order to fire. Andrew Symonds has obviously played a couple of helping hands, but again, gone are the days in which he was the key man, firing all cylinders, smashing those big sixes, and that is exactly what will need to change around.
Punjab will look at their bowling performance in the last couple of games and realise that it is their best suit. So, they may look to bowl first on a pitch that is unknown to bat on, and then try and restrict a brittle Deccan top-order. With Piyush Chawla having shown penchant to run through the middle order, it will need him to continue bowling the way he has so far to assist his side. >
As compared to that, the batting needs some consistency and some firepower at the hands of the top-order; Kumar Sangakkara and Yuvraj Singh. Ravi Bopara could come into the side in place of Adrian Barath, though, there is a good chance that Shaun March may play as well.
