Till before the start of this game between Chennai Super Kings and Deccan Chargers played at Nagpur, the points table bore a confusing look. After the game, the confusions only increased! The man of the match>

Deccan Chargers easily beat the Chennai Super Kings in the 42nd game of the tournament by six wickets and with five balls to spare and brought themselves back to level pegging with Chennai in the points table. And with that, there were four sides with ten points each on the points table; Kolkata, Bangalore, Deccan and Chennai. Some thinking to be done now!>

The Chennai Super Kings, predictably batted first after winning the toss, and were off to a good start. 41 runs were added off 4.4 overs by the man in form, Murali Vijay and the man trying to find his form Matt Hayden, and despite the loss of the latter, the side looked to be going in the right direction.

Suresh Raina was sent up at the number three position, and he was dropped quite early in the innings, but this was followed by three successive boundaries to push the Super Kings towards acceleration. There was a silly mix-up that ensued between the Vijay and Raina then, where Vijay turned to go for a second run blindly, but was found short of the crease.

Even then, the Super Kings were 82/2 in the 12th over and looked to be taking those strides towards at least 170.

This is where the game started to turn around for the opposition as Pragyan Ojha got rid of MS Dhoni after he had scraped through to seven runs off a couple of overs. Raina battled on, but the momentum was lost, and every time the batsmen tried to get going, they lost a wicket.

In the last 50 balls, of the Chennai innings, only 56 runs came, despite Raina’s neat half century, whereas the rest of the batsmen capitulated to end on 138/8 in the 20 overs.

The target was smallish and the Chennai skipper Dhoni started off proceedings with a spinner, R Ashwin. The strategy paid off rich enough dividends as the runs just refused to come, and Adam Gilchrist and Monish Mishra were both dismissed off the fourth over.

Post the powerplay, the runs began to trickle across as Rohit Sharma found the going tough against the barrage of the spinners that were unleashed. Sharma was finally relieved of his misery and the Deccan team were 61/3 in near 11 overs, looking down the barrel.

It was at this stage that the pair of Andrew Symonds and T Suman, who had also guided them to a win in the previous match, got together and got the side home. They added a quickfire 46 runs for the fourth wicket, given that the pitch was rather slowish in nature and despite the send-off Raina afforded Suman after dismissing him, the game was well and truly won.

Ryan Harris’ 3/18 off his four overs won him the man of the match award.
