The Sri Lankan explosive batsman, Dilshan Tillakaratne has been signed up by New South Wales team for the Twenty20 domestic competition to be held in next summers. The right handed blaster was declared the Player of the Tournament for the World Twenty20 tournament held in England last year.

Currently playing for the Delhi Daredevils at the Indian Premier League (IPL) season III, Dilshan is also playing for the Sussex County Cricket Club in England’s county cricket. The NSW (New South Wales) chief executive, Dave Gilbert regards Dilshan as the most destructive batsman in this format on the planet. “Tillakaratne Dilshan is an outstanding all-round player,” Gilbert commented on Monday, 15th March, 2010. “As well as being one of the world’s most destructive batsmen in Twenty20 cricket, he brings a wealth of international experience to our team. We look forward to him playing a leading role in helping New South Wales win next season’s Big Bash and thereby qualifying for the Champions League.”

The NSW grabbed the inaugural Champions League last year, organized in India but failed to requalify for the tournament. This year, though, the Australians have wasted no time in capturing the Caribbean Dwayne Smith and the allrounder from West Indies, Kieron Pollard. The team management has high hopes on Dilshan and expect him to win the Champions League trophy for them this year. We look forward to him playing a leading role in helping NSW win next season’s Big Bash and thereby qualifying for the Champions League,” Gilbert added further. However the batsman is yet awaiting a go-ahead from the Sri Lankan cricket board on the matter.
