The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has banned the former Pakistani captains, Younis Khan and Mohammad Yousuf from playing international cricket for the rest of their lives. This came in the wake of the decision taken by the PCB thanks to the recommendation by the inquiry committee headed by Wasim Bari, which had held them responsible for the in-fighting and the subsequent issues within the team. >
And Younis Khan and Mohammad Yousuf are not alone. There are many others like Shoaib Malik and Naved ul Hasan Rana, who have both been banned for one year from playing for Pakistan and the likes of the Akmal brothers – Kamran and Umar – and Shahid Afridi, who have been penalised Rs. 2-3 million. >
The committee had been formed to probe in to Pakistan’s performance on the tour of Australia in which they lost all their games. Malik and Rana were found to be breaching disciplines within the side, whereas Kamran Akmal defied the PCB’s orders and kept saying that he will play in the third Test – something that the PCB had clearly said he will not.
His brother Umar then protested by feigning injury and has been fined Rs.2 million, whereas Afridi’s ball-biting incident has cost him Rs.3 million – for bringing Pakistan cricket to disrepute.
According to former cricketer, Zaheer Abbas, “Players’ power was affecting team’s performance badly” and hence the decision was right. Even Abdul Qadir was happy with the guts shown by the board, but Inzamam-ul-Haq was with the players and said that they should go to the court against the PCB.
