Jacob Oram > has been ruled out of the ODI series which is being played against the Australia team and also the IPL matches due to the patella tendon tear. With this injury, he would be out of cricket action for a month or so. He will be replaced by Michael Mason, the Central District pacer in the New Zealand squad. The New Zealand team manager was heard saying that Jacob might take around three or four weeks to be fit. However, he won’t be there for the Australia series. His injury means he will miss most of the matches, if not the entire duration of the matches, along with the upcoming IPL matches which would be starting from March 12 onwards.
Oram sustained knee injury on Wednesday, 3rd of March 2010 whilst playing against the Australia team in the first ODI held at Napier. The New Zealand team won this match though Oram got injured and this means that he would be ruled out of many of the matches to be held ahead. He also suffered injuries last year in South Africa during the IPL matches. Oram represents the Chennai Super Kings team and was auctioned for around 675,000 US dollars.
Over the past couple of years, Oram has suffered multiple injuries whilst practicing or playing for his country. In 2008, he had to return home amidst the Bangladesh tour and miss the test series in Australia as he had suffered back injury. Later on, a calf injury kept him out of the home test series too which was against the West Indies team. Also, he got injured with Achilles injury which jeopardized his active participation in the one day series match and also the home series match against the Indian team. These injuries even forced Oram to call it quits for the longer period of time from his first love, cricket. In October 2008, he announced his retirement from the test cricket and wished to prolong his tenure in Twenty20 and ODI career.
However, faith had another plans for this all-rounder. Over the last year or so, Oram became constant topic of controversy for injuries than on field performances.
