Waqar Younis has been appointed as the coach of the Pakistani national cricket team. He had earlier been offered the contract last week, but needed some time to modify a few points in the contract. Appointed the coach of Pakistan>

The contract that Younis has is till the end of the 2011 edition of the World Cup. He will be supported by Ijaz Ahmed, former Pakistan middle-order batsman, who will be the batting and fielding consultant for the team. Ijaz Ahmed had been the coach of the Under-19 team of Pakistan for the World Cup played recently. The team had entered the finals of the tournament.

Miandad had earlier said that Younis was not the right choice as the coach of the side given that he had been one of the accused as the match fixer in the 1990s. Miandad himself has been the coach of the side on three separate occasions.

Intikhab Alam was the previous coach of the side, but the appalling performances of the side on the tour of Australia meant that there was no option but for him to go. The Pakistani side had lost nine successive games on the tour in all the three formats of the game.

Alam will continue to remain with the administration as the in-charge of the national academy.
