Yusuf Pathan smashed a chancy double century for West Zone to propel his side to a three wicket win in a record chase over South Zone. This was the final of the Duleep Trophy. >
The West Zone had behind the eight ball throughout the match, as they conceded a lead of 149 in the first innings, and then allowed South Zone to get away from 71/4 to 386/9. Dinesh Karthik was the star of the match for his side as he smashed a couple of 150s for his side.
The target set was 536 for a win, something that had never been achieved ever before in first class cricket. The West Zone side started well with a century run stand, but it was Yusuf Pathan’s unbeaten 210 that took the game away from South Zone.
Of course there was a lot of help from South Zone, as five catches were dropped off his blade. But full credit must be given to him for the way he continued going after the bowling; smashing a 190-ball 210!
The previous record for the highest total batting fourth to win a game was 513 made by Central Province against South Province.
