Tendulkar, Dravid slam centuries at Dhaka

India continued their domination over Bangladesh on the second day of the second and the final Test match at Dhaka.

India continued their domination over Bangladesh on the second day of the second and the final Test match at Dhaka. Resuming on their overnight total of 69/0, the Indians lost only five wickets in getting to 459 in their first innings and thus attaining a lead of 236 runs in the first innings.45th Test century>

The Indian team began with the same pace that they had ended on yesterday, with Virender Sehwag being off the blocks early. He completed his half century, but was soon dismissed by Shahadat Hossain for 56. On the other hand, Gautam Gambhir also got to his half century and was looking good for his sixth consecutive hundred, when a short delivery from Shaiful Islam got the better of him. A scare after a century>

Gambhir fell 32 runs short of a record sixth century that would have seen him tie with Sir Don Bradman for the most number of centuries in successive tests.

It was here that the Bangladeshis had an opening to get the better of the Indians and reduce their lead to manageable proportions. As it turned out, Rahul Dravid was first dismissed off a no-ball and then had a run-out appeal overturned after the video proved inconclusive, whereas Sachin Tendulkar was dropped.

Great batsmen usually end up making the most of reprieves and both Dravid and Tendulkar did just that as they piled up a century run stand for the third wicket. It was their 17th 100-run partnership together, which was another record that the Indians had today; breaking the Greendidge-Haynes and Hayden-Ponting record of 16. They went on to add 222 runs before Dravid was injured by a short delivery from Shahadat Hossain and had to be taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

Tendulkar went onto score 143 before being dismissed, while Murali Vijay hit a quickfire 30 as India ended the day at 459/5. MS Dhoni promoted himself and Harbhajan Singh over Yuvraj Singh as the southpaw seemed to be in a bit of a discomfort with his hand injury.

India will look to declare early on the third day after getting a lead of around 300 and try to get the hosts out as soon as they can.
