Sulieman Benn has been handed over a two-ODI match suspension after he was found to be violating a Level Two offence in the third test match at Perth against Australia. The other two cricketers involved in the squabble were Mitchell Johnson and Brad Haddin, both of whom were given lesser sentences – 10% and 25% fines of their match fees. Handed a ban>

The incident occurred when the pair of Johnson and Haddin were at the crease. Haddin hit a shot in the 118th over of the Australian innings and Johnson and Benn collided at the non-striker’s end in a race to get to the crease and the ball respectively. However, the more serious part of the incident occurred later, as Haddin was seen pointing his bat to the bowler, something that did not go down well with Benn. Got off lightly despite pointing bat>

Benn retaliated by attempting to throw the ball back at the batsman off the next delivery and then kept on talking to the pair at the end of the over. Johnson intervened this time and pushed Benn off after there was an initial contact between the two.

Haddin later regretted his role in the incident by saying that he should not have pointed the bat at the bowler.

Very evidently, the Aussies had been the instigators once again, and had got away with minor sentences, while the opposition had had to pay with a ban. The match referee was Chris Broad, who holds a rather healthy resume of banning non-Australian players; Herschelle Gibbs, Shahid Afridi, Gautam Gambhir have all been banned earlier.
