The world experienced Paul Collingwood paul collingwood making the England catching record as South Africa battled for runs on the second day of the first Test match held at SuperSport Park in South Africa. The match held in December 17th, 2009 was held between the England team and the South Africa team.

South Africa reached to 330 for six wickets during lunch and lost both overnight batsmen whilst adding 68 runs during the morning hours. Jacques Kallis could only manage to 8 runs to his overnight score of 112 before he edged James Anderson to second slip where Collingwood had held his 3rd catch of the innings. Duminy could make only 56 before he presented Collingwood with a fourth catch and edged off spinner Graeme Swann to a low to the fielder at a solitary slip.

Nevertheless, Collingwood easily made it and equaled the England record for most of the catches ever made by a fielder in a test inning. This was a feat which has been achieved 19 times in the previous records. Collingwood also made it to his fifth catch when an attempted sweep by Mark Boucher against Swann. Due to this, the on field umpires had to ask for a review by television umpire, Amish Saheba, with slow motion replays showing the ball had actually hit the ground and the boot.

Boucher was dropped on 25 when he tried to hook Stuart Broad to Graham Onions with fine leg boundary. England team thought that they had a 7th wicket balls prior to lunch when Morket was given left before against Swann by Steve Davis. However, this decision got overturned on review with replays showing the ball going over the stumps.
