Hill stumbles but still a top pick

Brown Hill faced their first defeat this season at the hands of Essendon-Maribyrnong Park at Ballarat on Sunday, 6th December, 2009. Despite the loss, the team still maintains top position at the Victorian Women’s Cricket Association standings.

The visitors were required to chase Hill for 92 runs and were able to overtake them in only in 23.4 overs. Essendon-Maribyrnong is currently second seeded following Hill at the VWC ratings. Hill went into bat first and was able to put up a meager score. Briony Polkinghorne, Emily Wardeiner, Kaitlyn Waldie and Bethany Taylor all left the field after contributing to only 10 runs overall. Later, Debbie Jones put up a 35 run effort to help Hills reach a respectable score.

On the other hand, opener Emma Scilini found her form early in the game and made an unbeaten 48 to steal the show. The match winning half century adds up to a total of 3 half-centuries for her current season, including her season best of 98.

Currently, Essendon-Maribyrnong Park is lagging behind Hill by 2 points and will face 5th seeded Box Hill on their next confront.
