The first T20I between India and Sri Lanka will be played at Nagpur on Wednesday. This is a part of the two match series in this format, and will be followed by five ODIs. India had earlier routed the Sri Lankans in the test series, 2-0, will look to continue making life difficult for the Lankans. >
Unfortunately for the Indians, this format hasn’t been kind to them after their win in the ICC World T20 of 2007. Since that time, India has lost to Australia, and then has lost two games to the Kiwis, before crashing out of Super Eights after losing to England, West Indies and South Africa in the ICC World T20 of 2009. Ironically, the only team of worth that they beat in this period was Sri Lanka! >

Sri Lanka was the runner-up in the ICC World T20, 2009, and that will hold them in good stead for this series. However, it also remains to be seen how they overcome the mental battering that they would have had to go through thanks to Virender Sehwag and company in the test match series. The Indian batting line-up hasn’t changed much and will look to overcome their bad record in the format.
Sri Lanka will also be hit by the absence of Muthiah Muralitharan who has been declared unfit to play in the T20I series. This will mean that Ajantha Mendis will be the lone spinner in the attack, and given the manner in which the Indians had manhandled him in the test series, it will be another baptism by fire for the once-mysterious spin bowler!
I shall certainly go with betting on India, who go into the match as marginal favourites – with Stan James offering 1.73 for their win as compared to Ladbrokes’ offer of 2 for Sri Lanka to win their first game on tour.
