West Indies ended the first day of the second test match at Adelaide on 336/6 after having won the toss and decided to bat first. The tourists, who are down 0-1 after losing the Brisbane test match rather easily, would be relieved by the day’s play. Third test match century>

Adrain Barath, who had scored a century in the first game, departed early for three to Doug Bollinger. Bollinger had been played in the test match in the absence of the previous game’s man of the match, Ben Hilfenhaus. Bollinger then sent the captain Chris Gayle on his way, for 26 and despite Ramnaresh Sarwan’s fighting 28, West Indies looked troubled at 84/3. Controversial stint on crease!>

The woes increased when Brendan Nash did not bat against after lunch after being hit on his elbow. However, Shivnaraine Chanderpaul and Dwayne Bravo then took the onus on themselves to get together and add a century for the fourth wicket. Chanderpaul was lucky to be let off by the third umpire but a rather wrong looking decision – again by the third umpire Asad Rauf – sent him on his way back.

Chanderpaul scored 62, whereas Bravo went on to complete a century – his third in tests – but three quick wickets set them back. They had collapsed from 235/3 to 273/6 thanks to Shane Watson’s two wicket haul. Nash returned back to bat, and added an unbeaten 63 for the seventh wicket to end the day at 336 without getting separated. Both batsmen were on 44 when the stumps were drawn, five overs earlier.
