Cook eager for captaincy role

Alastair Cook has said that he is ready to accept the captaincy of England if given a chance to do so.

Alastair Cook has said that he is ready to accept the captaincy of England if given a chance to do so. And his chance may come if Andrew Strauss is allowed a rest from the series against Bangladesh early next year.

There have been many experts who have advocated that Strauss needs a break from meaningless series in order to prolong his career, and the one against Bangladesh could be the right one to afford him the break. Will be be made the captain if Strauss is rested?>

Cook said that there was a hypothetical chance that Strauss may take the tour off, and that would mean there could be a chance that he could be assigned the captaincy role. However, he also went on to add that he will not lose his sleep over the captaincy issue. England has already seen quite a few captains in the last couple of years, including Michael Vaughan, Kevin Pietersen, Paul Collingwood, Andrew Flintoff, Andrew Strauss and now, if he is appointed, Cook. Will be take a break from Bangladesh?>

Cook has not been a full-fledged captain of his county side Essex, and that means that it will be a totally new proposition for him. However, he has been the vice-captain of the side ever since Pietersen was sacked from the post after a public row with the coach of the side, Peter Moores.

England tour South Africa next, and within one month of that series getting over, they will be off to Bangladesh to play their next one.
