Daniel Vettori, the New Zealand Player of the year

‘’’ Daniel Luca Vettori ’’’ is a professional cricketer and the present captain of the New Zealand national cricket team. He is the youngest player to have joined as an 18 year old in 1997 in the history of the team and is a slow left arm orthodox spinner. Known for his spinning all rounder in the world of cricket, Vettori became the 8th player and the second left arm bowler in 2009. Daniel Vettori made his test debut in 1997, whilst playing against England and his first wicket was Nasser Hussain. His one day international debut was against Sri Lanka the same year. His records prove that he is definitely the all rounder player of the Black Caps with 94 matches won, 3492 runs, 303 wickets, 48 catches and 21 matches won as a Captain. At present, he is placed in the third place as an all time New Zealand table with most ODI wickets in his pocket.

With the New Zealand team

The New Zealand team known by the name of the Black Caps from 1998, has till date played in 351 test matches. With the New Zealand team, he played a key role in the 2004 Tri-series in England against other professional teams of England and West Indies. Later on, in 2005, when playing against Zimbabwe, he took his 200th test wicket and was known as the third bowler from New Zealand to have gained this mark after Chris Cairns and Richard Hadlee. Vettori became the temporary captain for this team and took the place of the captain at that time, Stephen Fleming. By 2007, he permanently took this responsibility of captaincy. Moreover, during the Twenty20 Championship inaugural, he was the captain of the Black Caps.

New Zealand Player of the Year

Daneil was presented the 2009 National Bank Player of the Year. He was awarded the Winsor Cup for his outstanding performance for first class bowling along with the JR Reid Best All-Rounder Trophy. These trophies were presented to him in Auckland at the SKYCITY Auckland Convention Centre at the National Bank New Zealand Cricket Awards dinner. According to the team Chief Executive, Justin Vaughan, Daniel Luca Vettori deserved this supreme award after his amazing performance in all areas of the season. He further added that Vettori is an inspiration not only for his team but also to the New Zealand cricket fans. This all rounder has made his mark as one of the most successful and bright captains in the world of cricket. For Daniel, the entire 2009 year went by winning test against West Indies with six wickets, with a century against India and later on, by joining the elite club of 3000 runs and 300 wickets, achieved as an all-rounder in the history of the cricket world.
