Pietersen’s recovery from surgery is still moving at a slow pace, while the 29 year old has already missed out on the 3 Tests during the Ashes series. Besides, he is also ousted from the one day internationals against Australia and the coveted Champions Trophy.

England will tour South Africa where the team is scheduled to play 4 Tests, 5 ODIs and 2 T20s. Pietersen however will not be able to play in any of the games though the tour was supposed to be his competitive comeback. Pietersen’s recovery from the surgery is the major concern which has not been very helpful.

Pietersen was present at the Italian Grand Prix on Sunday where he spoke with BBC Sport, “I saw a couple of surgeons during the week but it’s slow at the moment. I’ve got an open wound in my leg. I’m really hoping to be back for the South Africa tour at the moment, that’s still what I’m looking at.”
