Coventry smashes 194, but Zimbabwe still lose

Charles Coventry nearly broke the world record for the highest individual score in the ODIs, but that could not prevent his Zimbabwean side from losing a high-scoring game to Bangladesh. With this win, Bangladesh has taken an unassailable 3-1 lead in the series.

Coventry scored an unbeaten 194 for Zimbabwe that propelled his team to a score of 312/8 in the fifty overs. The previous highest by any individual cricketer in this format of the game was Saeed Anwar’s 194, and Coventry managed to equal the score. He would consider himself to be unlucky as he had five balls in the last over to make his double century, but his captain Prosper Utseya hogged all the strike and that prevented the batsman from getting to it.Guides Bangladesh to a win!>

However, Tamim Iqbal spoilt Coventry’s party by smashing a 154, which saw Bangladesh through to the target with 13 balls to spare. Incidentally, Iqbal’s 154 was his country’s highest individual total as well!

With this win, Bangladesh leads the series 3-1 and with only one game to play, has won the series. The final game will be played in Bulawayo on Tuesday.
