Michael Clarke and Brad Haddin have more or less spoiled [England]]’s chances of winning the most coveted Ashes at the Lord’s in a long 75 years. Their world-record run chase of an unbeaten partnership of 185 now appears to be enough for Australia to take home the Ashes for yet another time.
However, the host nation still has the advantage as Australia still find the need to produce another 209 runs on Monday, and are a wicket away from having to rest on the bowlers to deliver with the bat.
Australia has already managed a 4th highest fourth-innings total in Lord’s 125 year history and are 105 runs short of Test cricket’s highest ever successful run chase.
Australia witnessed a quick fall of their wickets as they lost 3 batsmen before tea with the target of only 128. Andrew Flintoff’s team was expected to wrap-up the remaining wickets but faced a strong hold in the middle order from Clarke and Haddin.
Though the duo survived many scares after the new balls were introduced, they played with extraordinary maturity and strong determination. They have brought Australia back into the game but still need yet another dazzling display to overcome the mountainous target.
