Chaminda Vaas has announced his retirement from the longer format of the game, with the final test against Pakistan at the SSC in Colombo as his last match. He has however said that he will continue playing the ODIs and T20Is till the end of the 2011 World Cup.

In 110 Tests, Vaas has 354 scalps at 29.40 after making his debut against Pakistan in 1994and 400 one-day wickets. He is second behind M. Muralitharan Vaas in his wickets tally for his country. also has 3085 Test runs at 24.48, including a century.
Sri Lankan skipper, Kumar Sangakkara said about Vaas, βHe is a true champion and probably the only Sri Lankan fast bowler who can be called a true legend of the game. No matter who replaces Vaasy in the bowling attack they will take years and years to reach the standards he has set - and maybe they never will.β
In this third test match, he was chosen as the fourth quick bowler, and opened the bowling for his team.
Earlier this month, it had been Andrew Flintoff, who had retired from test match cricket to continue playing in ODIs and T20Is only.
