Michael Vaughan may announce retirement soon

Michael Vaughan is all set to announce his retirement from all forms of the game on Tuesday, including the first class cricket. This comes after Vaughan was left out of the pre-squad that was announced for the Ashes, and then was axed from the starting eleven for Yorkshire’s T20 game against Derbyshire. Bidding adieu to cricket>

Vaughan had led England to their only Ashes win in more than two decades in 2005, a 2-1 triumph over the arch-rivals Australia. But he had actually shot to fame in the previous series against the same team by piling up 615 runs in four test matches in Australia. In the last couple of years, Vaughan has had problems with his dodgy knee and even skipped the IPL auctions to concentrate on a last hurrah in Ashes, but poor form meant that he was dropped from the line-up and not chosen for the pre-squad.

Vaughan played in 82 test matches and scored 5719 runs, with a highest score of 197. He also led his team in 51 of these 82 games and won a record 26 matches; the highest any captain has won for England.

He last played international cricket in the series against South Africa last year, but stepped down from captaincy to hand over the baton to Kevin Pietersen after England lost the series.
