The Bangladeshi selectors have sacked the captain of the national cricket team, Mohammad Ashraful from his duties as a captain after a rather dismal performance in the ICC World T20. Bangladesh was knocked out of the very first round of the tournament, losing to both, India and Ireland.
Fast bowler, Mashrafe Mortaza will be the new captain, and the all-rounder Shakib-al-Hasan is the vice-captain.

Mohammed Jalal Yunus, the BCB’s Media & Communications Committee Chairman, said, “The board wants to sincerely thank Mohammad Ashraful for his contribution as skipper. The decision to replace him was taken with the intention of relieving the load on Ashraful so that he can play his natural game.”
Ashraful has had a very dismal record as a captain, having won drawn one out of 13 tests he led the team in and losing the rest. Out of the 38 ODIs that he led his team in, the team won only eight and most of those victories were against non-test playing nations. His best performance as a captain came in the ICC World T20 of 2007, when the team knocked West Indies out of the tournament to reach the Super Eights.
Ashraful will now continue playing in the side as a batsman.
The new captain Mashrafe has been Ashraful’s deputy, and was the only player from Bangladesh to be selected to play in the Indian Premier League. Shakib has been one of the best all-rounders in the world, and his slow-left arm bowling has got him many wickets in the last one year, most notably in a series against New Zealand where Bangladesh had just about managed to pull off an upset win due to his all-round performances.
