Lalchand Rajput, India’s coach in the 2007 World T20 has said that most of the teams have worked India out and the team will have come up with new strategies to keep afloat in this format of the game. He also said that India’s performance in the tournament was disheartening and that it had hurt him personally because he thought that the Indians were favourites to win the tournament.
Rajput, while speaking to a website, said that although it isn’t whether there was a tiff between the captain and the vice-captain, the whole talk about the same seems to have hurt the team’s chances as well.
Rajput, who had worked wonders with the team in the previous edition said that other teams had realised that Team India isn’t comfortable facing up to the short stuff and so had used them fairly regularly in both; the West Indies and the India game. He added that Virender Sehwag’s absence could not have helped the team, and that it was definitely felt by everyone. Rather surprisingly, Rajput did not think that mental fatigue was one of the reasons for the defeat despite calls from Gary Kirstein, Dilip Vengsarkar and Sachin Tendulkar regarding the same.
He also said that while it is easy to comment in the hindsight, sending in Yuvraj Singh so late in the order did not make sense, and should have come in instead of Ravindra Jadeja.
