The Women’s first World Twenty20 Cricket tournament would begin in next week. The favorites of this tournament are the England Women’s Cricket team. The two reasons why this team has been selected as the favorites are that it has won the World Cup in March and the selectors have announced a settled squad for this Twenty20 championship. >
Edwards speaks out
If retrospection is done, it can be seen that Australia has dominated world cricket in the past. However, in the 2009 Cricket World Cup, this team underperformed and England became the No. 1 team in the world. The captain of the England Women’s Cricket team, Charlotte Edwards, commented that her team has never been in the No. 1 position in the past. So, honestly she cannot comment on how being in this position would affect the team. The team simply intends to relish this position and demonstrate some good cricket as they did in winter and further hope that they have continued success.
Players in the England team
The opening batsmen are Sarah Taylor and Caroline Atkins who collaborated nicely in Sydney and aim to continue this form during the upcoming championship. Claire Taylor is the No. 1 batsman in the world and the Wisden Cricketer of the Year. The pace department would be handled by Nicky Shaw, Jenny Gunn, Isa Guha and Katherine Brunt. Laura Marsh took the maximum wickets in the 2009 World Cup and she can show her spin magic in England. Marsh would be ably assisted by Holly Colvin.
