He remained unbeaten on 114 after facing 73 deliveries. This knock was inclusive of 4 sixes and 10 boundaries and had a strike rate of 156.16. He was nearly out in the 3rd over of the innings itself, but was saved due to a gross misjudgment by RP Singh. Pandey made complete use of this chance and displayed an efficient rather than graceful innings. Pandey is an under-19 batsman very less people in South Africa would have heard before this century. The match

Earlier during the day (21st May 2009), Royal Challengers Bangalore won the toss and opted to bat first. Jacques Kallis could not contribute much and after facing 7 deliveries returned back to the pavilion on 5. Other than Pandey, the other batsmen who entered double figures were Roelof van der Merwe, who made 23 off 18 balls ( 1 six, 3 fours ) and Virat Kohli who remained unbeaten on 19 off 9 deliveries. For Deccan Chargers, the top scorer was Herschelle Gibbs who faced 43 deliveries and with the aid of 4 sixes and 3 fours accrued 60 runs. Many batsmen entered into double figures, but in the end Deccan Chargers fell short of 12 runs.

On Friday (22nd May 2009), Delhi Daredevils would clash against Deccan Chargers. On Saturday(23rd May 2009), Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore would play against each other.
