The Deccan Chargers routed the Rajasthan Royals by 53 runs at Kimberly to register their biggest win of the tournament so far. With this win, the Chargers have gone up to the third spot with six wins, where as the Rajasthan Royals drop one place down to fourth with 11 points.
After winning the toss, the Chargers decided to bat first on a flat wicket. Herschelle Gibbs had been expectedly rested after a string of performances which left him with only 22 runs in five games, but the Chargers’ opening woes continued as Adam Gilchrist left after hitting a six off new-comer Morne Morkel.
T.Suman has had a good run in the competition so far and he was promoted to open the batting, which he took to like a duck to water. He hit Siddharth Trivedi for two boundaries, but was then scalped by the same bowler. Rohit Sharma’s bad run extended by one match and he scored only nine as the Chargers went into the break at 77/3.

Andrew Symonds seems to have got back to his best, as was evident in his 36-ball 60 that he had played in the last game. Here, he took to the bowling and raced to 30 – off 19 balls – before being yorked by Ravindra Jadeja and that effectively ended the Queenslander’s inning.
Chaminda Vaas, promoted up the order smacked a few lusty blows, was dropped around, before finally departing for 20(15), but Dwayne Smith had the last word as he went after the Royals bowling. 17 runs came in the 17th over by Trivedi, as Smith hit three sixes in his inning. They ended with 166 in their twenty overs.
In reply, the Royals never looked being a part of the reply. Graeme Smith was wrongly adjudicated LBW off the first ball Chaminda Vaas bowled, where as Lee Carseldine was stumped by Gilchrist after he forgot the wicket-keeper was up to the stumps. Royals at 20/2 in four overs.
Swapnil Asnodkar has been dropped down the order in the last match, and he began smashing the ball around the park. At the other end, Yusuf Pathan needed to break free, however, he did not last too long; gone for six, and after that nothing remained of the batting line-up. The rest of the batsmen capitulated like nine-pins and Rohit Sharma scalped three wickets in his spell of tight, spin bowling.
Dwayne Smith won the man-of-the-match award.
