Hat-tricks of sixers
Virender Sehwag displayed a hat-trick of sixers off the first three deliveries he faced. Eventually, he was bowled by Iain O’Brien when he had scored 26 runs in 10 balls. The second hat-trick of sixers was exhibited by Yusuf Pathan when the bowler was Nathan McCullum. The first three deliveries of his over were clobbered over long-on. When Pathan attempted the fourth sixer, he was caught by Jacob Oram on a personal score of 20 in 8 balls. However, the mainstay of the Indian batsmen was Suresh Raina. He was the sole Indian batsman to reach the fifty mark. He faced 43 deliveries and with the assistance of 5 sixers and 2 boundaries, remained unbeaten on 61. Some help came from Irfan Pathan who managed 12 runs in 14 balls and Harbhajan Singh who hit 21 runs in 22 deliveries.
Half century partnerships
Jesse Ryder was trapped leg before wicket by Ishant Sharma for 1 off 4 balls. Martin Guptill had a stroke of luck when he was declared not out by the umpire when a huge inswinger from Sharma hit on his pad. Guptill was finally dismissed when he was leg before wicket to Harbhajan Singh. By that time, he had scored 41 runs in 28 balls with the help of 3 sixers and 4 fours. Guptill and Brendon McCullum struck a partnership of 54 runs for the 2nd wicket. Further, Ross Taylor took charge of the batting and hit 3 sixers and 1 four on way to 31 off 20 balls. When Taylor was bowled by Zaheer Khan, Taylor and McCullum had completed their 50 run partnership. Jacob Oram and McCullum remained unbeaten till the end and made a partnership of 60 runs. McCullum faced 49 deliveries and smashed 3 sixers and 2 fours on way to 56 runs.
