The second group match of India was against Zimbabwe at Grace Road, Leicester on 11th June 1983. In 51.4 overs, Zimbabwe was all out for 155. Iain Butchart was not out on 22 in 35 deliveries. Madan Lal took 3 wickets while giving away 27 runs in 10.4 overs. India replied by scoring 157 runs for 5 wickets in 37.3 overs. The top scorer was Sandeep Patil who faced 54 deliveries and hit 50 runs. Peter Rawson bowled 5.1 overs, gave away 11 runs and made 2 dismissals. Madan Lal was honored as the Man of the Match. India won this match by 5 wickets.
Group match against Australia
On 13th June 1983 at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, Australia and India played a group match. In 60 overs, Australia amassed 320 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. The major contribution came from Trevor Chappell who made 110 in 131 deliveries. Kapil Dev made 5 dismissals for 43 runs in 12 overs. India was cheaply bowled out for 158 in 37.5 overs. Kapil scored 40 runs in 27 balls. Ken MacLeay bowled 11.5 overs and took 6 wickets for 39 runs. Chappell was given the Man of the Match award. Australia won this match by 162 runs.

Vivian Richards smashed 119 runs in 146 balls and West Indies reached 282 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 60 overs. Roger Binny took 3 wickets while conceding 71 runs in 12 overs. India was bowled out for 216 in 53.1 overs. The lone battler was Mohinder Amarnath who faced 139 balls and hit 80 runs. Michael Holding took 3 wickets for 40 runs in 9.1 overs. The Man of the Match was Richards. West Indies won this match by 66 runs.
