Australia’s white-ball skipper Aaron Finch says rumours and talk about rifts within the national set-up are “not ideal” and “disappointing” as pressure mounts on coach Justin Langer.

Reports have emerged about tension from within the dressing room at Langer’s ‘intense’ leadership style, which allegedly boiled over when he spoke sternly to a Cricket Australia digital journalist who was within their hub during the recent Bangladesh series.

The pressure has mounted following back-to-back 4-1 T20 International series defeats to Bangladesh and the West Indies for Australia too.

“There’s always tension when results don’t go your way in all sports,” Finch told SEN Radio.

“Wins and losses are what count. I think anytime that doesn’t happen, that all gets amplified. It’s just one of those things. I

“t’s disappointing that things are coming to the front the way that they are, that’s never ideal.

“It’s just one of those things that keeps popping up, which is disappointing.”

Langer, who has been Australia coach since May 2018 in the wake of the sandpaper scandal in South Africa, has led the side to Ashes glory in England in 2019 and the 2019 World Cup semi-finals.

However, Australia failed to make the ICC World Test Championship final and were beaten on home soil by India in a Test series last summer.

The side’s T20I woes are more stark too, having lost their past five series ahead of this year’s World Cup in UAE and Oman.

Finch insisted that the side could contend at the World Cup, particularly having fielded depleted sides in recent T20I series.

“I’ve got no doubt that our best is as good as or better than anyone in the world,” Finch said.

“There’s a lot of experience there. There’s firepower, there’s class. I think that our best team covers all bases. And that’s what I’m really excited about.”
