Lynn injured his hamstring in the warm-up prior to Wednesday’s loss to the Adelaide Strikers at the GABBA and was withdrawn from the game with a late change.
The Brisbane Heat skipper and top-order blaster underwent scans on Christmas Eve which the club have confirmed revealed a “lower grade strain” of his hamstring.
The Heat statement said: “Lynn is targeting a return to playing for the Heats Melbourne leg from January 14 after scans prior to Christmas revealed a lower grade strain.”
While that date is close, the Big Bash League (BBL) heads into a congested period of fixtures over the next three weeks, with Brisbane to play six games before the Melbourne leg.
There’s also no certainty Lynn, 30, will recover in time to take his place on January 14, meaning he’ll miss a significant portion of the season for the struggling franchise.
The Heat are currently bottom of the BBL standings, having lost all three of their opening matches this season, managing only one bonus point.
Lynn made 89 in his two knocks this season, including 69 from 44 deliveries against the Sydney Thunder offering a glimpse of his quality.
Elsewhere in the BBL, there’s been some hiccups for star players, with Strikers’ Afghan spinner Rashid Khan appearing to strain his hamstring in the same game. Adelaide are yet to confirm the extent of the injury ahead of Monday’s game against Perth.
The Melbourne Stars have also opted to allow key players to take some leave, including Marcus Stoinis and Adam Zampa following a hectic 2020 schedule, spent mainly in bubbles overseas.
Early ladder leaders and reigning champions Sydney Sixers produced a heart-stopping last-gasp win over the Stars on Saturday night, with Daniel Hughes making an amazing 96 as they produced a stunning run chase.
