Warner was forced from the ground during Australia’s bowling innings in Sunday’s 51-run victory over India at the SCG, with the opening batsman injuring his groin while attempting to field a ball.
CA issued a statement on Warner, with speculation running rife that the injury will see him unavailable for parts of the Test series against India which starts on December 17 in Adelaide.
Public debate has raged about whether Australia should open with incumbent Joe Burns and in-form youngster Will Pucovski but Warner’s injury may make the decision for selectors.
“Warner will miss the last match of the Dettol ODI Series and the three Dettol T20 Internationals with the groin strain,” the brief and undetailed CA statement read.
Warner will be replaced in the T20I squad by D’Arcy Short, while Pat Cummins will also sit out the remainder of the white ball games, with another ODI on Wednesday before three T20Is.
Australia coach Justin Langer added: “Pat and Davie are critical to our plans for the Test Series. Davie will work through his injury rehab and in Pats case it is important all of our players are managed well to keep them mentally and physically fit throughout what is a challenging summer.
“The priority for both is being fully prepared for one of the biggest and most important home Test Series we have played in recent years, especially with World Test Championship points up for grabs.”
The update also confirmed that all-rounder Marcus Stoinis would remain with the white-ball squad despite a side strain, while Mitch Marsh hadn’t proved he’d recovered enough from an ankle injury to take his place in next month’s Australia A matches against India.
