He’s still only 17 but Naseem Shah is shaping up as a game-breaker ahead of the England-Pakistan Test series, according to the visiting captain Misbah-ul-Haq.

The First Test of the three-match series between England and Pakistan starts on Wednesday at Old Trafford in Manchester, with the hosts fresh from a 2-1 series victory over the West Indies.

Pakistan have warmed up for the series with a series of internal matches in Worcester and Derby over the past few weeks, with Naseem impressing with his pace.

The teenager, who debuted against Australia as a 16-year-old late last year, claimed 10 wickets in two of the internal matches.

He’s already taken 13 wickets in four Tests, including becoming the youngest player to ever take a hat-trick, in February against Bangladesh and looms as a major X-factor.

“Before going to Australia, Waqar Younis and me just saw him in the Gaddafi Stadium and at that time he just looked like a complete bowler,” Misbah said.

“We could see the potential but now we’ve got the evidence at international level, he has already got a hat-trick and five-fors.

“If you see his experience and his cricket then the sample size is too small but hes already fulfilling his potential.

“He is one who could win a Test match on his own so were looking forward for him to emerge as a very good bowler in this series.”

Meanwhile, there’s a selection squeeze for England’s XI ahead of Wednesday’s match with six fast bowlers contending for three spots as the summer of rotation continues.

England essentially have six Tests in six weeks, meaning selectors want to keep their bowlers fresh.

Ben Stokes played the final Test against the West Indies as a batsman only, so his all-round capabilities will change the set-up of England’s line-up.

Chris Woakes, Jofra Archer, Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad were the fast bowlers for the Third Test, with Dom Bess playing as the spinner, while Sam Curran and Mark Wood may get a chance, although one of the aforementioned quartet will definitely need to make way.
