For the third match in the series, and with the outcome already decided, both sides made changes, with South Africa bringing in Daryn Dupavillion and Lutho Sipamla for Lungu Ngidi and Tabraiz Shamsi. Meanwhile Australia had allowed Mitchell Starc to leave early, in order to watch his wife Alyssa Healy play in the Womens World Cup final, and Pat Cummins and Ashton Agar were rested, Into the side in their place came Jhye Richardson, Kane Richardson and Josh Hazlewood.

It was South Africa who won the toss in Potchefstroom and opted to field first. And they enjoyed early success with the ball when David Warner was caught behind off the bowling of Anrich Nortje. Aaron Finch and Steve Smith added 31, but Smith was the next man to go, lbw to Andile Phehlukwayo for 20. Dupavillion was making his first international appearance, and he marked his debut by then having Finch caught by David Miller for 22.

Marnus Labuschagne and DArcy Short then put on 81 for the fourth wicket until when he had made 36, Short was caught by Heinrich Klaasen off a ball from JJ Smuts. Then Labuschagne and Mitchell Marsh combined, and they added 53 until two wickets fell in the same Smuts over. First, Marsh was run out by Miller for 36, and then, three balls later, Alex Carey was bowled.

However, Labuschagne then shared a stand of 64 with Jhye Richardson, during the course of which he reached his first ODI century. He was finally bowled by Nortje for 108, having struck 8 fours, off the penultimate ball of the innings, Richardson was unbeaten on 24, as Australia finished their 50 overs on 254 7.

Both Nortje and Smuts took two wickets each for South Africa.

In reply Quinton de Kock and Janneman Malan put on 47 for the first wicket before de Kock was bowled by Hazlewood for 26, having struck 2 sixes. In his next over, Hazlewood had Malan caught behind for 23, but Smuts and Kyle Verreynne then put on 96 for the third wicket, until Verreynne was caught by Labuschagne off the spin of Adam Zampa for 50. He had struck 3 sixes. Smuts then combined with Klaasen, and the pair added 79 until Smuts, who had made 84, including 12 fours, was caught by Warner off the bowling of Kane Richardson.

However, Klaasen and Miller then scored the remaining runs needed for victory, as South Africa reached their target with more than four overs to spare. Klaasen, who hit a six and 10 fours, was unbeaten on 68, whilst Miller made 3 not out.
