For the deciding match in the three game series Afghanistan were unchanged, whilst the West Indies brought in Shai Hope, Khary Pierre and Lendl Simmons for Denesh Ramdin, Sherfane Rutherford, and Hayden Walsh.
Winning the toss and opting to bat first, Afghanistan suffered an early blow when Hazratullah Zazai was caught off the fifth ball of the day by Evin Lewis with Sheldon Cottrell the bowler. Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Karim Janat then came together, but Janat soon departed, caught behind off Cottrell.
Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran put on 32 in a stand dominated by Gurbaz, and when Zadran was run out by Jason Holder, Gurbaz then combined with Asghar Afghan, and the pair shared a fourth wicket partnership of 50, before Afghan was caught by Brandon King off Keemo Paul for 24. He had hit one six.
Gurbaz and Najibullah Zadran added 26, before Gurbaz, who had provided the backbone of the innings, fell for 79, caught by Paul off Kieron Pollard. He had hit 5 sixes and 6 fours. Najibullah and Mohammad Nabi then added 22, but Najibullah was the next wicket to fall, caught by Pollard off a delivery by Kesrick Williams, for 14, having hit one six.
Three balls later Rashid Khan was caught by Cottrell of the same bowler, before Nabi was dismissed for 15, caught by Holder, Paul again the bowler. Naveen-ul-Haq and Gulbadin Naib added a further five, as Afghanistan closed their innings on 156 – 8.
Cottrell, Paul and Williams each took two wickets apiece.
In reply, the West Indies got off to a stuttering start, when Simmons was bowled by Mujeeb Ur Rahman, and then King was bowled by ul-Haq. Evin Lewis and Shai Hope then put on 26, but Lewis was the third wicket to fall when he was lbw to Janat.
Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer put on 38 for the fourth wicket, but, with the visitors falling behind the required rate, they began to take risks, and Hetmyer fell for 11, caught by Afghan, with Rashid the bowler this time. Hope then combined with his captain Pollard, but the skipper was the next man out, caught by Najibullah off the bowling of ul-Haq for 11.
Five balls later Hope, who had made 52, featuring one six and 3 fours, fell to another catch by Afghan, off a ball from Gulbadin. And then, at the start of the last over, Holder became the seventh wicket to fall, caught by Nabi, with ul-Haq the bowler again. Paul and Pierre were unbeaten at the end, but, by that time, the West Indies were well short of the required target, and could only finish on 127/7.
