Afghanistan won the second T20I against the West Indies by 41 runs, levelling the series in the process.

For the second match in the series, both sides made one change apiece from the first game. Afghanistan replaced Fareed Ahmed with Karim Janat whilst the West Indies brought in Keemo Paul for Fabian Allen.

It was Afghanistan who won the toss and opted to bat first, getting off to a fine start with Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Hazratullah Zazai putting on 42 for the first wicket at a run a ball, until both fell in successive deliveries to Kesrick Williams. First to go was Gurbaz, who was caught by Kieron Pollard for 15, and he was followed by Hazratullah, who had struck one six, who was caught by Brandon King for 26.

Asghar Afghan and Janat added 20, but Afghan was caught behind off Jason Holder for 8, and, after Janat had put on an additional 15 with Ibrahim Zadran, he fell to the same bowler for 26m leg before wicket. Zadran was the next wicket to fall, caught by Pollard off Keemo Paul for 11. And, in his next over, Paul dismissed Mohammad Nabi, Williams supplying the catch.

However, Najibullah Zadran and Gulbadin Naib then put on 44 for the seventh wicket to give their some renewed hope, until Gulbadin fell off the third ball of the last over, lbw to Williams for 24, which included one six. Najibullah was 20 not out at the end, and Rashid Khan 5 not out, as Afghanistan finished their innings on 147 – 7.

Williams was the best of the West Indies bowlers with 3 for 23, whilst Holder took 2 for 23, and Paul 2 for 28.

In reply, The West Indies supplied an early loss when King was bowled by Naveen-ul-Haq for 12. Evin Lewis and Shimron Hetmyer put on 17, but then Hetmyer fell for 11, lbw to Janat. In his next over Janat struck twice more, first having Evin Lewis caught by Ibrahim Zadran for 14, and then, two balls later, having Sherfane Rutherford caught behind.

The next wicket to fall was the West Indies captain Pollard, lbw to Janat for 7, and them after Denesh Ramdin and Jason Holder had added 15, Holder was the next man out, stumped off the bowling of Rashid Khan.

Janat was having a fine match, and he took his 5th wicket when he bowled Paul for 11. Jason Holder and Hayden Walsh put on 16 for the 8th wicket, and although Walsh was the last wicket to fall, caught by Rashid off Gulbadin, the West Indies were well short of the required target, and could only manage 106 – 8 from their 20 overs.

Janat finished with 5 for 11 from his four overs.
