Singh’s deficiencies
It is not a secret that Yuvraj Singh of India is vulnerable while playing against the moving ball and spin. Also he has a defective foot movement. There are perpetual complaints regarding his attitude and he likes to party often. Currently he has been in news for all of the above and he has not been chosen for the Irani Trophy. This indicates that he may be dropped for the series against Australia.
The difference
Mahendra Singh Dhoni the Indian one day captain has moulded his game to survive. He has altered himself from the image of a warrior to that of a foot soldier. Previously he was a murderous batsman and now is an accumulator. However these traits are not seen in Yuvraj. One does not notice him laboring the way out of demanding and strenuous conditions. It seems that his plan is to play his natural game of aggression even if it might result in death.
National selector’s opinion
A national selector has the opinion that Yuvraj is very talented and hence the selectors have continued with him. However the significant point is whether he has been successful in changing his game over the years. In the past when he would play pace for some time he would not be much bothered by spin. However at present after being on the pitch for some time he is not comfortable against spin. On the top of it if the pitch supports pace he has problems against these bowlers also. Overall it is felt that he must retrospect and work hard – he needs to amend the technical faults and become more fit. When this change happens the selectors would obviously select him.
