The Kolkata Knight Riders secured their second successive victory in the IPL beating the Kings XI Punjab in front of their home fans.

His innings featured 7 sixes. That brought Andre Russell to the creased, and he smashed 48 off 167 balls, including 5 sixes, until he was caught off the fourth ball of the last over for 45. Uthappa, who had hit 2 sixes of his own was undefeated on 67, as Kolkata closed on 218 – 4.

In reply, Kings lost KL Rahul in the second over, and then Russell had his fellow West Indian Chris Gayle caught for 20. Agarwal shared a stand of 23 with Sarfaraz Khan, and, when he departed also to Russell, put on 74 for the fourth wicket with David Miller.

However, his side were falling below the run rate, and when Agarwal was bowled by Piyush Chawla for 58, Miller and Mandeep Singh could not prevent their side slipping to defeat, despite an unbeaten stand of 56, with Miller, who hit 3 sixes, unbeaten on 59, and Singh 33 not out.

Andre Russell was named man of the match.

On Thursday, the Mumbai Indians claimed their first victory of the IPL season, beating the Royal Challengers Bangalore by 6 runs. Playing in front of their home crowd, Bangalore put Mumbai into bat, but had to watch as Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma gave them a fast start. De Kock became one of four victims for Yuzvendra Chahal, falling for 23, but Rohit and Suryakumar Yadav added 33, before Rohit was out for 48.

Yadav scored 38 and Yuvraj Singh 23, but there was a middle order collapse in which 5 wickets fell for the addition of just 5 runs, before Hardik Pandya scored a valuable late 32, including 3 sixes. He helped his side to reach 187 for 8, with Chahal taking 4 for 38 for Bangalore.

In reply, Moeen Ali was run out for 13, but Parthiv Patel and Virat Kohli looked to be giving their side a good platform, until Patel was bowled for 31. Kohli and AB de Villiers added 49 for the third wicket, before the Indian captain became one of three victims of Jasprit Bumrah for 46. That left de Villiers at the crease but, despite his best efforts, he could not find a partner to chase down the required runs. He finished 70 not out, having struck 6 sixes, but his side fell short, and closed on 181 – 5.

Bumrah finished with 3 for 20 and was given the man of the match award.
