India won the toss and decided to field in Dubai, striking quickly with the fast bowling pair of Bhuvneshwar Kura and Jasprit Bumrah removing openers Liton Das and Nazmat Shanto within the space of 4 balls, when both had scored 7. Shakib Al-Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim added 26 for the third wicket, but Shahib became one of Ravindra Jadeja’s four wickets, caught by Shikhar Dhawan for 17.
Mohammad Mithun was then lbw to the spinner for 9, and Mushfiqur was caught, having made 21.
Mahmadullah (25) and Mosaddek Hossain added 36, but then both fell in quick succession, with the score on 101. However, then there was a stand of 66 for the 8th wicket between Mehedi Hossain and his captain Mashrafe Motaza, which added some gloss to the Bangladeshi score card.
Eventually Morteza was caught by Bumrah off the bowling of Kumar for 26. Then Bumrah himself dismissed Mehedi who had scored 2 sixes in his 42, and then wrapped-up the innings with the wicket of Mustafizur Rahman, as Bangladesh were bowled out for 173, with 5 balls of their innings to spare.
The Indian opening pair of Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan set off at a determined rate, putting on 61 for the first wicket before Dhawan was lbw to Shakib for 40. Sharma and Ambati Rayudu added 41 for the second wicket before Rayudu was caught by Mushfiqur off the bowling of Rubel for 13. Sharma, however, was leading from the front, and he reached his 50, having struck 2 sixes.
He was joined by MS Dhoni, and the pair looked set to guide their side to victory when, just three runs short of their target, the veteran Dhoni was caught by Mithun off the bowling of Mortaza for 33. It mattered little, as Dinesh Karthik scored the single needed to give India victory in the next over, as Bangladesh suffered their second heavy defeat in successive days.
Jadega with his 4 for 29 was named man of the match.
