Between them, the two sides have won four of the last five edition of the IPL. Mumbai taking the title in 2013 and 2015, with KKR triumphant in 2012 and 2014.
For Mumbai, Friday will represent their second chance to progress to the Final, having finished top of the qualifying table, and played in Qualifier No.1 However, on that occasion, in a match played in their own Stadium, they slipped to a 20-run defeat to RPS.
KKR will need to emulate last season’s champions, Sunrisers Hyderabad, if they are to claim a third IPL title, and win the trophy by the most torturous of routes. They came through the winner take all Eliminator in the early hours of Thursday against the Sunrisers, the game not finishing until 1.27am. Rain during the innings break reduced the match to just 6-overs, and KKR were set just 48 to win.
The two fixtures between Mumbai and KKR in the regular season, were both won by the Indians. In match No.7 they won by four wickets on home soil with just a ball to spare. They then completed the season’s double in Match No,54 in Kolkata, winning another close contest by just nine runs, defending 173-5.
The overall record in matches between the two sides, now stands at 15 wins to Mumbai, and just five victories to KKR in the 20 fixtures that they have played over the course of 10 seasons of IPL action.
