The Bangladesh selectors have picked Shuvagata Hom and Taijul Islam for the T20I series, while Tanbir Hayder and Mehedi Hasan who were both in the ODI squad have been omitted. Mehedi might consider himself particularly unlucky, given that he didn’t make a single appearance during that leg of the tour, while Tanbir played twice, making just five runs, and failing to take a wicket with his leg-spin.
Rubel Hossain was another player who failed to gain selection even once for the ODI’s, but in his case, he has been retained for the T20Is. Soumya Sarkar played in the first ODI, making just a single, but also retains his position in the squad.
The hosts will have to make do without Martin Guptill, who picked up a hamstring injury while running between the wickets while batting in the third ODI in Nelson. The grade one injury will keep Martin Guptill out of action for some 2-4 weeks. His replacement in the Kiwis T20I squad is Neil Broom, who performed admirably in the ODI series. Scoring a century in the second fixture, and followed up with 97 in the final game of the series.
Bloom who would expect to bat at four or five in the ODI side, will open the innings in the T20 format. He will need to be at his best in the field, as Guptill is one of the Black Caps most athletic contributors in that area of the game.
In domestic T20 cricket, Bloom who plays for Otago. has scored 206 runs at an average over 50, with a strike rate of over 140.
