Royal Challengers Bangalore v Mumbai Indians live & preview IPL 2016

The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are still clinging to hopes of making it through to the knockout phase of the 2016 Indian Premier League (IPL), following their thrilling and nail biting one run victory against the Kings XI Punjab at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali, Chandigarh on Monday.

The game against the Kings XI was effectively a must win fixture for both sides, as they were locked together on six points, four points adrift of the vital top four places in the qualifying table.

The Kings XI are effectively out of contention for a top four finish as they remain on six points, with just four fixtures remaining to be played, and are four points behind the fourth placed Delhi Daredevils who have a game in hand.

On Wednesday, RCB are at home to the reigning Champions, the Mumbai Indians, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. Going into the fixture, Bangalore are now two points behind Mumbai, but with a game in hand and a superior overall run rate.

Victory for the hosts will lift them into fifth position, and provide the confidence and momentum that could yet see them through to the last four. It would also put a severe dent in the chances of Mumbai successfully defending their title.

Mumbai had enjoyed three successive wins before the weekend fixture, when they were thrashed by the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam, losing by 85 runs.

Hyderabad posted an imposing 177-3, before dismissing Mumbai for a mere 82, with Harbhajan Singh coming in at number eight and top scoring with 21 not out.

Having chased down Pune’s 191-6 at the weekend, RCB claimed a second successive win on Monday, when they sneaked victory by just one run against the Kings XI, just about managing to defend their 175-6.
