Quinton de Kock brings a different dimension

Talented Quinton de Kock has been going through a slump of form and is short of confidence and self-belief, but the selectors must back him to deliver the goods.

Talented Quinton de Kock has been going through a slump of form and is short of confidence and self-belief, but the selectors must back him to deliver the goods.

His attacking prowess and aptitude is worth its weight in gold and he can be devastating and destructive when he is on song. There is certainly no questioning of his undoubted potential and capacity and he is a sweet timer of the ball. De Kock has a expansive range of strokes in his calibre and can smash any attack into pieces.

He also offers the additional wicket-keeping role and has improved and developed into a exquisite and reliable keeper. The 22-year-old takes the strain and pressure off experienced AB de Villiers, who can play with more freedom and express himself thanks to the evergreen youngsters rise.

De Kock provides the balance to the South-African time and lifts the spirits of the team with his energy and positive mindset.

He made his mark on the international stage when he was earmarked as special talent for the future after he became only the fifth batsmen to score three centuries in a row, which De Kock achieved against India in November 2013.

The opening batsmen however is in poor form and he has technical flaws, that needs to be fixed urgently. He is struggling for patience and he looks frustrated. He is playing irresponsible shots and not playing according to the situation, with his poor shot selection the main reason for his struggles. He is certainly under the pump and he is in desperate need of runs.

It will be a wise decision for the management to send him back to South-Africa so he can receive coaching and work on his technique and erase his weaknesses.

He is looking short of self-belief and it will be a huge relief for supporters when he finds the form that has made him a exquisite batsmen. He is not striking the ball as cleanly or comfortable as he does on his day and he is not as still at point of impact.

Everyone goes through a difficult period in their career and it is the ones who come out on top, who fulfil their potential. De Kock has shown promise and it is pleasing to know that he will only get better with age. Whether the selectors will give him their confidence and give him chance to emerge out of his shell, we will not know, but if they do not another bright young talent will be wasted.
