Ijeoma Egbunine is a professional boxer from Lago, Nigeria. Born on December 30, 1980, she already had ten titles under her belt fighting in Nigeria before she moved to the United States, where she received a prophecy saying that her path to glory was in boxing.
Ijeoma Egbunine took the services of Rev. Henry Okafor as her manager and made her debut in December 2004, fighting against Janaya Davis and winning the match, despite Davis’ protest that she was set up to lose the fight. Davis was undefeated prior to her match with Egbunine.
In her second match against Davis, Egbunine won the match again with a KO in the second round. Egbunine’s only loss came in 2005 when she was defeated by Nikki Eplion who was fresh from her fight with Laila Ali, which Eplion lost. However, Egbunine made up for this loss by winning the subsequent fights. She faced off with Swedish boxer Asa Sandell at the Joel Coliseum Annex in North Carolina, winning the match with a TKO in the second round. Her much awaited fight with Laila Ali never happened amidst rumors that Ali’s team was afraid that Egbunine will knock her out.
In 2008, Egbunine also won a six round decision over former world champion Lisa Ested.
Egbunine’s last match was in 2009, when she fought Leatitia Robinson and won by an eight round unanimous decision, which made her advance to a record of 16-2.
Ebgunine is also the owner of Praise Gym in Smyrna, Georgia.
