Manuel Vargas is a professional boxer from Mexico. Born on March 29, 1981, in Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco, Mexico and is known to fans as “Chango.” Vargas holds a record of 29 fights, with 25 wins and 3 losses and 1 draw. He won the WBO minimum weight title on December 2008 after beating Columbian Daniel Reyes. A year later on September, Vargas fought Donie Nietes for the full version of the WBO title which he lost by a split decision.

On February 13, 2010, he moved up several decisions by fighting Nonito Donaire for the Interim WBA Superflyweight title which he lost by a third round KO. He was the second choice for the match with Donaire, after Gerson Guerrero failed to qualify with a detached retina. The matched was held in Las Vegas at the Hilton, where Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire beat Vargas with a third round TKO. Donaire led the game all the way before ending the fight with a left uppercut. To his credit, Vargas took on the fight on short notice but did not back down when he was called to fight after Guerrero’s disqualification was announced. Vargas was also clearly overmatched, with Donaire towering over the Mexican player. The fight had more of an exhibition match feel to it, with Donaire using the opportunity to showcase his skills to the audience. With this fight Donaire improved to a record of 23-1.
