Andrea DeShong
Andrea DeShong used to be a professional boxer for the United States. She was born on March 16, 1962 in Mingo Junction, Ohio, and she is best remembered as the boxer who defeated Christy Martin during Martin’s fourth fight as a professional.
DeShong debuted into the world of boxing in March 11, 1989. During her first fight, she defeated Angel Horton via knockout in the first round in a match that was held in Wheeling, West Virginia. After one more match, DeShong went head to head against Jamie Whitcomb and won the match via knockout in the first round.
Two more fights after the fight against Whitcomb, DeShong fought Martin on November 4 in a fight that was held at Bristol, Tennessee. In the match, Martin faced her first defeat in her career after losing in a five round decision fight. After her win against Martin, DeShong faced Whitcomb once more, and once again came out victorious.
In April 21, 1990, Martin and DeShong had their second fight, and this time Martin avenged her loss and DeShong experienced her very first defeat as a professional. Since rematches are hard find, DeShong and Martin were not able to meet for six years. And since Martin had then become the WBC world welterweight champion, DeShong gained the notoriety of being the only boxer to defeat Martin as a professional.
Over the course of DeShong’s career, she was able to enjoy 14 victories, 8 via knockout, with 9 losses, and 1 draw, totaling 24 bouts.
