Isra Girgrah is a female champion boxer who was born in Yemen on September 16, 1971. When she was still 3 years old, Girgrah’s family moved to Canada. At present, she is an American citizen who takes up residence in Maryland, United States.

Girgrah is also called “Ranging Beauty” by boxing due to her beauty and dynamism in the arena. She is the only woman from the Middle East who has become a world champion boxer. She and fellow Yemeni Naseem Hamed are the only Arabs who have become world champions in boxing.

Girgrah first took interest in boxing in 1994 when she was 23 years old. Being a natural sport lover, she took boxing to stay fit only but fell in love with the sport. After she graduated college, she concentrated on boxing.

She debuted in professional boxing on February 2, 1995 against Deirdre Gogarty. Her first match was unsuccessful as she lost via technical knockout. That was her first loss of her 3 career losses. The Ranging beauty won her first match on November 2, 1995 against Melinda Robinson. Her first technical knockout came two months later when she defeated Amy Sherrald on January 19, 1996. After this victory, she won all her subsequent matches and defeated many great boxers.

Her second loss came on August 23, 1997 in a fight against Christy Martin. She recovered the next two following years by defeating all her three opponents via technical knockout until October 23, 1999, when she experienced her third and last loss to Marischa Sjauw in a unanimous decision. From then on, Girgrah never lost a fight until her retirement in 2004. Her last fight was on March 27, 2004, where she defeated Carla Witherspoon after six rounds in a unanimous decision. She was almost 33 at that time.

Girgrah has won several titles including four world championship belts–the IBF Lightweight Champion, IWBF Jr. Lightweight Champion, UBA Lightweight Champion, and WIBF Jr. Lightweight Champion.

In her 33 matches, she has a record of 28 wins, 11 of which were by knockout; 3 losses; and 2 draws.
