Chevelle Hallback
Chevelle Lynette Hallback is a black American female boxer, born on September 3, 1971 in Plant City, Florida.
Hallback was 24 years old when she began to train as a boxer. Six months after she went into training or on February 2, 1997, she debuted in a fight against Connie Plosser, whom she knocked out in less than a minute during the first round.
Her next fight was a mismatch as she was pitted to the then world-famous undefeated kickboxer Lucia Rijker of Netherlands on March 22, 1997 in Texas. Rikjer easily knocked her out.
After her controversial mismatched fight, Hallback redeemed herself by defeating her next four consecutive opponents, three of whom she knocked out. One of this matches earned her her first world title. This happened on March 6, 1998, Hallback defeated Bonnie Canino and won the Women's International Boxing Federation (WIBF) featherweight title.
“Fist of Steel,” as Hallback is also called, experienced her second defeat on April 26, 2000 in a close fight against Doris Hackl in her quest for the International Female Boxers Association (IFBA) super featherweight title. Her third defeat came the following year in her next fight with Laura Serrano.
Hallback won her next fifteen fights against great boxers and earned herself another world title. On August 27, 2002, she won against Alicia Ashley to acquire the IFBA super featherweight title, which she was able to defend several times. On May 20, 2004, she lost against Mary Jo Sanders in her quest for the IBA Female Continental Light Welterweight Title in a 10-round unanimous decision. She won her next five fights and was able to defend her WIBA super featherweight title until she lost in a unanimous decision against Holly Holm on May 23, 2007.
In 2008, Hallback moved to the lightweight division. On February 2 of that year, she defeated Melissa Hernandez to become the IFBA International Female Boxers Association (IFBA) lightweight champion. She was able to defend this title on June 13 of that same year against Jeannine Garside.
So far, Hallback’s career record includes 27 wins, 5 losses, 2 draws and 5 knockout wins.
