Karen Bill
Born on October 21, 1967 in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, Karen Bill is the youngest of four children and is a multi-sport athlete who participated in the Olympic Games trials. She enjoyed a celebrated career in boxing in 1999 to 2002.
Karen Bill‘s love for sports started at an early age. She was into baseball in the late 1970s, when she joined the local Little League in 1977 and became the only girl in the team at the age of ten. By 1985 she was a track and fielder in high school and won the Pennsylvania state school championships. In the same year she also got involved in her school’s javelin, shot put and discus tournaments. She indulged her interest in rugby when she attended Penn State where she graduated with a degree in health policy and administration.
After college, it was off to the military for multi-sport athlete. She entered the military in 1992 to improve her physical strength and to put her physical therapy skills to good use. While in the military she competed on the 1995 World Military Games in Rome, Italy, and a year later, at the US Olympic Trials in Atlanta, Georgia for the hammer throw. She failed to make the cut, however.
Bill received an honorary discharge from the military in 1998 and returned to her hometown to establish her own physical therapy clinic, catering to the disabled, cancer patients, and stroke survivors.
She entered the world of boxing in 1999, debuting against Carmen Dominguez Paris in her hometown. After a second defeat to Kisha Snow, Bill got her first title by beating Genevia Buckhalter by knockout. She fought for the last time in 2002, beating Cassandra Geigger by decision in Lawton.
